The Big Hand

I am currently creating large sculptures of hands from broken and dismantled chairs I have been collecting from the side of the road for many years. It is a blast to finally make something I have been holding a vision of for many years. Right now I am making each hand from a single chair so the worn and faded paint or varnish surface creates a unified lived in skin. In the future I plan to mix and match scraps from several chairs to create a more polyglot collage effect.

Here are a few things I have been inspired by in my passion for color design and spectral wildness.

Here are a few examples of my pencil portrait work. The first two couples are finished portraits and the two of the men were photographed while still in progress.

I took these pix on a recent trip to Turkey. I love this exercise and it has inspired me to push the edges of combining photo collage and drawing to make a lively unique image that can do magical things!
